Virtually all the leading commercial databases such as Oracle, Sybase and DB2 are today available on the Linux operating system. Add open source databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL and there is virtually no limit to the choices that can be made.
One choice all administrators must make when choosing a database and application environment, however, is how to secure and protect the data that inevitably is key to their operations.
All of these database environments offer various means of data protection and continuous processing capabilities. These are all available at a price, of course.
PeerFS can be a powerful complement to your database environment by enabling continuous availability and/or rapid restoration characteristics to any Linux database data easily and at a cost that is affordable.
